Getting to the Airfield - Show me a map
The best thing to do is just to get a lift with someone going from your uni!!! Check out the FORUM to see who's driving down or post if you're going to. Even if it's someone from a different uni, you can always meet them on the way somewhere e.g. Nottingham!
BPS (British Parachute Schools) Langar is the largest civillian dropzone with 1,750,000 square metres of land for you to drop into! It has 2 Cessna Grand Caravans so there's always loads of lifts going up as long as there is people to jump! It opened in 1977, and some of the instructors have been there all that time but they're all really really nice!!
http://www.bpslangar.co.uk/html/about.htmLangar Airfield is 12 miles South East of Nottingham and 5 miles South of Bingham on the border of Nottinghamshire and Leicestershire. The Airfield is between the villages of Langar and Harby. The Parachute School is located in the Control Tower building on the Airfield.
By Bus: From the Broadmarsh Centre Bus Station in Nottingham, Barton's Buses Number 22 or 22b run to Langar village, unfortunately, they no longer take the route directly past the airfield so you can get dropped off outside the Unicorn pub in Langar village and either walk the one mile down the main road or ring up the airfield and see if anyone can pick you up! Or you can also get the number 24 from Bingham.
By Train: Mainline to Nottingham or Grantham or then onto Bingham. Then taxi to the Airfield (about 18), or, from Nottingham, buses as above. The Broadmarsh Centre Bus Station is about 5 minutes walk from Nottingham Train Station and you catch the bus from a stop on the street directly outside the train station... easy! A taxi from Bingham is normally cheaper or just ring and see if anyone will pick you up in return for beers!
By Car: Using an up-to-date road atlas will help or sat nav!! Use the following directions...
From M1 North: Leave the motorway at Junction 25 and follow the A52 (which becomes the Nottingham ring road) and signs for Grantham. Keep heading for Grantham until you reach the large roundabout signposted A46 Leicester to the right. Take this road. After about 3 miles Langar is signposted to your left at a crossroads with a petrol station. Follow this road to its end at a T junction at Langar village. Turn right towards Harby. Going towards Harby from Langar Village, the Airfield is on your left, about 1 mile from Langar, a few hundred yards past the 'John Deere' factory (also on your left). You have gone too far if you go past some factories on your right: the Airfield entrance is just before these.
A1 North or South: At Grantham take the A52 towards Nottingham. You will see signs for Langar to your left as you pass the town of Bingham (which is on your right). Langar is about 5 miles south of the A52. Go past Langar village, heading towards Harby. Going towards Harby from Langar Village, the Airfield is on your left, about 1 mile from Langar, a few hundred yards past the 'John Deere' factory (also on your left). You have gone too far if you go past some factories on your right: the Airfield entrance is just before these.
